Introduction to Audacity

Objectives

This course is aimed at podcasters, teachers, lecturers and Higher Education users who use Audacity to create audio material to a high standard. In addition, Audacity can be used by community groups and individuals to create oral history projects.

Pre-requisites

Good general skills in laptop or desktop computing. Some previous experience of using audio recording and/or digital audio editing equipment and techniques is helpful, but not essential.

Course includes

A comprehensive set of reference notes covering course topics, follow-up telephone support and, for training on Transmedia premises, lunch and refreshments.

Course outline

Overview and Basics

  • What is Audacity?
  • How can I use it for my audio production?
  • Importing audio from a digital source e.g. portable recorder, CD, USB memory stick etc.
  • Editing the material

Using the Multitrack options

  • Multi-track recording
  • Using effects, e.g. reverb, pitch,echo, delay
  • Working in stereo and mono
  • Making a finished project suitable for podcast, CD or as an audio file for export to radio station playout systems etc.
